How To Recover Deleted Photos With Photo Nose

It’s happened to the best of us. You just get back from vacation with a camera full of pictures, you upload the pictures to your computer, then accidentally delete everything. Don’t panic! AcuteTools has produced a great piece of software called Photo Nose which will bring your images back from the dead and have you happily snapping new ones in no time! We’ll take you into the program, step-by-step, and show you how to restore photos from your digital camera or flash memory card reader instantly.

Step 1 – Installing Photo Nose

Installing PhotoNose

Once you’ve downloaded the program, the installation proceeds quickly just like most other software. The whole install process goes like this: Click Run, Run, Next, Next, Next, Next, Install, Finish. This will place a new icon on your desktop named “Photo Nose”.

Step 2 – Plug In Camera or Memory Card Reader

At this point, you should plug in your digital camera or memory card reader for an SD card, XD card, or whatever format your camera uses. If you copied the pictures to your computer before they were deleted, then you can skip this step.

Step 3 – Running Photo Nose

To begin the restore process, double-click the “Photo Nose” icon. You’ll see this screen:

  • Click Next.
  • Then, you need to choose the drive letter where the image files used to be. If you previously copied these to your computer, then you will probably choose “C:\”.
  • If you know the file type of the images (JPEG, GIF, BMP, etc.), then you can select that in the “Select File Types” dropdown box. Normally, though, you can leave this as “All supported media type”.
  • Click Next to begin scanning.

Step 4 – Scanning For Files

This step is easy: you just have to wait for Photo Nose to scan your drive for the missing files.

When it’s finished, click Next.

Step 5 – Choosing The Correct Picture File To Undelete

When you get to this point, the program will present you with a list of image files that it found. You’ll see something like this:

Click the magnifying glass next to the file to get a preview of what the picture looks like. For each image file that you wish to undelete, place a check-mark in the box next to the file name. As soon as you have all of your images selected, click Finish, and your missing pictures will be restored!

Conlusion

Photo Nose makes it simple to restore deleted photos, and we recommend it highly for anyone who needs to retrieve picture files that were mistakenly deleted. AcuteTools also makes another tool named File Plucker which works to recover any file that was deleted, not just images. We recommend Photo Nose if you’re interested in photo recovery due to the specialized interface for previewing files, but if you are looking for general data recovery, you should look into File Plucker instead.
